“So what do you suggest? Live a life without any strife? Sip some tea, then you die? Maybe add in a stroll while you’re at it. That’s it?” “Sure, maybe.”
Regan or Audrey could at times have opportunities to switch communities in Dova to something other than research. Maybe it makes more sense for Regan since she’s naturally good at something more simple, but she doesn’t like that. Audrey could hate this too as she could have to leave to something with the Librarians as she cannot do field work so she is meant to do a life of reading for enjoyment only. The Librarians could take over through some odd event and it would make sense for Audrey to switch sides, but it could be like converting to another religion where it’s not as simple as filling out a form or saying you belong to that group. Regan probably goes on a long spiel about how she wants a life that’s hard with fulfillment, rather than one that she just fits in perfectly without any action she does deciding the outcome. This would get into whether someone’s life is predetermined for them or if someone truly does have free will. If she was born talented at something, but it was not raised in such esteem as other groups, would that be something that she could ever truly be happy with. It was something that she just took for granted and assumed everyone was good at it. This transferring of societies could be spurred by Audrey or Regan needing housing or something only one of these societies have access to. Something for them to further their understanding of how to find the clouded city.
