Audrey turned stop light red in anger, but the makeup Regan caked on that morning hid it except for under her eyes and chin.
“Yeah I mean I just didn’t want to grow up. I knew that there were atrocities out there, but I didn’t know enough about the details to worry about them. I just didn’t want to bite the apple you know? Why do people have to have this exactly linear experience of learning everything at the same exact rate? Why are we just clones of each other? We think we’re being different and escaping the pack just to find out there’s 20 carbon copies of you in the same neighborhood. Look I get it, be similar to bond and everything to reach a greater goal, but we can’t do too much when there’s no variation. I chose my path and all of you happened to choose your path. I get it, I’m outnumbered. I’m not cool. Maybe even sometimes I’m not helpful, but there’s also been plenty of times that my indifference to the common has saved your petty meager lives. So yes, I made some mistakes that you all may think are common sense, but they were not common sense to me. Does that make it better or are rules hard and fast to everyone? Stone rules etched in a tablet are a raceway to some “perfect model” of a human. Only fire-flamethrowers degenerates think that exists. We are meant to work together, BUT WE ARE NOT ANTS. We may try to lift things, but we’ve moved on from that point in our species development. I don’t see us practicing synchronized dancing…I mean maybe the band needs and the under recognized athletes of synchronized swimming. Sure, it is scary to be this unified hivemind, especially to your enemies. That’s great, however we need the explorers of the world to see what works and what is needed. So I’m an explorer and I didn’t do it all perfectly as that’s not the goal. It’s supposed to be messy charting a new path. Learning something without a textbook manual that could knock someone out, literally and at a grander sense, taking your free will. I’m sick of it all. And I know you all weren’t listening so just don’t expect me to fish you out of your puddle of oil tears when you try to burn me at the stake as you always do the moment I step out of line.”
“You done yet? We need the room for introduction to IKEA furniture assembly.”
“Sure.” Under her breath Audrey rolled her eyes internally and whispered, “Just like that, WHOOSH, right over their heads.” She widened her eyes at the ground so no one could see as she tilted her head back and forth in a crazed way. The next second Milton looked back from grabbing his coffee and she returned to her composure and grabbed her glue and manuscript papers leaving the door in a slam.
Riviera looked at Milton, “What a b____ am I right?” “No kidding. Now,” he patted his legs to get up. “Where are the mini screws attached to the instructions and the top Allyson Gust playlist? I want to be at the middle of the leader board.”
