“You know I used to want to be on the 30 under 30 list just like you, but I thought it was cursed with the public perception being so twisted that you never even get a chance to speak on your side of the story or your existence. Something would always leak out, even if you didn’t commit fraud. Somehow the knives always come out that you were a blight to work with, especially if you were a woman. I can’t remember many profiles of a man being terrible and they would still get celebrated like the tech fancy full of the ism giants squashing any other opinion in their path (istay on the pigsay).
I’m sure if I were to get it, it would be a nightmare. Someone would say how I bothered my ex friend group and was an overall drama queen that cried at the slightest inconvenience. They would all gossip and hinge on that I came from something that I had firm footing and how dare I have a life that never involved ramen. But most likely if they were to truly do that to me, I would give them the Meredith Grey quote, “You don’t get to call me a whore…so you don’t get to judge me on how I fixed what you broke.” Since truthfully, would any of that have happened if I was unbothered by these men in the first place?
All I wanted was to play with some big magnifying lenses and stuff. I didn’t have the great dreams of proving people wrong until I was so mistreated that it had to all be for something. That men being terrible and forcing me to rely on them and clipping my wings of independence every chance they got. These gossip columns never actually get to the meat of the story or see from multiple angles. I really wonder why the witch-hunt is so fascinating to everyone, but it’s so dangerous too. I would have thought we would have evolved from forms of cruelty to empathy in this age, but humanity has a habit of disappointing me.
Was I the only one that could see the articles about a growth mindset being better than a fixed one? Every time it’s always black and white. This one is good and a hero, and this one is bad and a villain. Is the average person really that stupid and self-absorbed to think that only they are the ones with nuance to their life? I get you all want someone for free labor or to get the short end of the stick so you know so long as it’s not you…but god if you actually wanted a functioning society it would not be this.
