There is a lot to do today, and everything takes energy. Then of course everyone else’s energies and motivations shift. Of course, I’m talking about Fridays. Would Friday’s even exist in Dova? I’m not sure…but the end of the workshift tends towards 6 hours before being let out. What will you do those first 3 hours of the day, as you are the over achieving procrastinator to get the last bit of this week before all the noise dies down? Should you treat the noise and laziness as a waste of time and make a working weekend day to stay home?
You go in the facility the next day free to do your work undisturbed except by the robot janitor? But what are you trying to accomplish, are you trying to make social connections and posture for help from others down the line, or actually cash in on those connections now to finish your to-do list with little strife on your own?
Is there a magic time when there is a dead zone in the gym? At home? At a magic white board? What will do with your life?
Did you spend enough time being an apprentice this week to know what your advisor actually wants from you? Do you have a clear path ahead? Is there someone only available in the mornings, but how much knowledge is worth a long pontificating meeting vs. a direct answer from an email or work text?
The answer seems to stay home, to take advantage of isolating those parameters while you can, to write more than you could ever need and then widdle it down with everyone else. But is there an implicit time to meet and look at equipment to know other’s research? This will never be know until opening the box to see the dead cat or if it cut a hole and escapes while you were not looking. But it’a up to you to chase it and give it some milk.
